HOW LONG MUST IT LAST?
A one-day activation and a permanent installation need different approaches. Durability, reuse and intended lifespan should shape the material choice.
INSIGHT / NOTES FROM PRODUCTION
Practical thinking from decades of hands-on production: choosing the right materials, understanding demanding sites and making the decisions that turn an ambitious brief into a successful installation.
01 / PRODUCTION THINKING
The finished environment may look effortless. Behind it sit hundreds of decisions about materials, tolerances, print, fabrication, logistics and installation.
02 / MATERIALS
Better outcomes start with better questions: how will it be used, where will it live, what will it be made from and what happens afterwards?
03 / ENVIRONMENTS
From graphics and built structures to natural elements, every surface can contribute to how people experience a brand.
FIELD NOTES / EVENT PRODUCTION
The most expensive production problems often begin before a file reaches a printer. A little clarity early on can prevent avoidable revisions, site surprises and last-minute compromises.
Confirm dimensions, fixing surfaces, access permissions, public-use restrictions and the actual installation window. A busy transport-linked site may require overnight-only working and closure to the public; plan around those constraints before committing to production.
Build artwork around real panel sizes, joins, bleed, viewing distance and the way graphics will wrap around structures or meet at corners.
Consider exposure, handling, duration, fire-performance requirements where applicable, and how the graphics will be removed or reused.
Plan packing, labelling, transport, site access, installation sequencing and sign-off before production begins. On a restricted site, a rapid turnaround is only achievable when the production programme and available access window work together.
GOOD PRODUCTION ISN’T ONLY ABOUT MAKING THINGS. IT’S ABOUT MAKING THE RIGHT DECISIONS EARLY.
BRING US YOUR BRIEF ↗FIELD NOTES / MATERIALS & RESPONSIBILITY
Sustainable production starts before anything goes to print. It starts with the questions we ask when a project is being specified.
A one-day activation and a permanent installation need different approaches. Durability, reuse and intended lifespan should shape the material choice.
Indoor or outdoor, temporary or permanent, high-traffic or protected: the environment affects substrates, inks, finishes and fixing methods.
Plan for dismantling, storage, reuse or responsible disposal from the outset. A material is only part of the answer; the whole lifecycle matters.
Good specification balances appearance, performance, budget and environmental responsibility — without easy claims or unnecessary complexity.
